Monday
Today we began with movie trivia and a discussion about the poor test grades. The quarter ends Friday, and retests need to be in before that. Students will be allowed to retest on Wednesday or Thursday. After this we talked about the homework and went over it. I then began the introduction into rational expressions. We discovered how holes and asymptotes are made and then went through examples of them to get a feel for how to work them.
Tuesday
Today we began with a practice problem on rational expressions and variation. We talked about homework and then moved on to practice problems. Afterwards, we discussed horizontal asymptotes and how to find them. This brought us to a full understanding of the topic. We will practice this more and move on tomorrow.
Wednesday
Today we began with a warm-up on graphing rational expressions. We went over the homework and I answered questions about the topic. Afterwards I had them get in groups and work on a worksheet as groups. This will be graded for accuracy and finished for homework. They used the whiteboards to complete initial work and I would come around and check it and give suggestions throughout.
Thursday
We began with a quick warmup and then moved on to grading the homework. The students will grade their own and then bring it home to make corrections. Afterwards we began multiplication of rational expressions. This involves factoring and cancelling just like before. It is just a different way to look at a similar process.
Friday
We began with a quiz and warmup. Afterwards, we introduced adding and subtracting rational expressions. We began by adding fractions and getting common denominator and extended this to generalized rational expressions.
Monday
We started off with a movie trivia kahoot. We then moved on to talking about the test and introducing rational expressions. We talked about what they were as well as went through examples of how to graph them. We went through how to find a hole or vertical asymptote.
Tuesday
We began with a practice problem finding holes and asymptotes. Afterwards, they used their whiteboards to go through a bunch of problems with me and work through them. At the end of class we discussed another type of asymptote, horizontal asymptotes. We discussed what they were and how to find them.
Wednesday
We began with a warmup review on the concept. Afterwards we discussed horizontal asymptotes and how you find them. We practiced a bunch of examples and combined it all to practice all holes and asymptotes and holes as well as domain, range and graphing.
Thursday
Today was spent working on the project that was given to them last week. They had the whole class to work on it. They had supplies ready and were also welcome to ask me questions.
Friday
We began with a warmup and then a quiz. After the quiz, we began talking about multiplying and dividing rational expressions. We will practice this some more on Monday.
