Honors Math III
Retest will be either Thursday or Friday
Monday
Monday was back down to business for Honors Math III. We started a new unit after movie trivia monday. We began by examining polynomials and their degree as well as classifying them by the number of terms. This was important to understand the different types of polynomials. We ended by talking about end behavior of polynomials and how it depended on the leading coefficient and the degree. This unit is about understanding polynomials at an almost intrinsic level and we began that today.
Tuesday
We started with an end behavior warmup and went over the homework. Afterwards we began by looking at polynomials in factored form finding their solutions. This was simple, but we moved forward onto multiplicity. Multiplicity and solutions allow us to get a general idea of the shape of a graph. We used this information to get an idea of the center of the graph and combined it with the previous days knowledge on end behavior and began sketching graphs of polynomials from this information.
Wednesday
Warmup was on graphing a polynomial using solutions and multiplicity. We began looking at a graph and working in reverse to get the equation. Afterwards we did some whiteboard practice with these types of problems to cement the idea in our brains.
Thursday
2nd period did not meet so in 4th block we began by completing some more examples of graphing using multiplicity and roots as well as working from the graph to the equation. This was completed on white boards. Afterwards I gave them time to begin working on their project.
Friday
We began with a warm up on graphing by roots and multiplicity and working in reverse. We then moved on to taking a quiz on this material. Afterwards I introduced the next section of adding and subtracting polynomials and the imaginary and irrational root theorem as well as letting them work on their projects some more.
Academic Math III
Retest will be either Tuesday or Thursday
Monday
Monday started off with movie trivia and then we began going over complex numbers. This topic was skipped in the last unit so that we did not spend too much time on it. We looked at what they were, how to simplify them, add them, and multiply them.
Tuesday
We used the whiteboards to practice the previous day's' material. We then moved on to solving quadratics and getting imaginary numbers. We used the whiteboards for practice and worked through a lot of problems.
Wednesday
We began by reviewing for the quiz and making sure we didn't have any questions about the material before we began taking the quiz. Tomorrow we will begin the new unit.
Thursday
We began the new unit today by introducing polynomials and standard form. They began by reordering polynomials and combining like terms. We then moved on to talking about the number of terms and the highest exponent. Afterwards, I gave them the names for all of this and we started classifying polynomials. The next topic was end behavior. We stood up and used our arms to represent the graph of a function and came up with the shape of the graphs at the ends. This represented the end behavior and we then wrote it down.
Friday
First was a warm up on end behavior. After the warm up we began talking about polynomials in factored form. We started relating it back to last unit and found the solutions of the polynomial. I explained that although the number of times a solution appeared had not been important up until now, we would now understand why it was useful. We began looking at equations and coming up with roots and multiplicity. Then we practiced graphing them.
