Today was a busy day in Math II. We talked about graphing quadratics. We discussed the different important points, lines, and other information that must be known about a parabola. We discussed the difference between an x-int and a zero. We talked about increasing interval, decreasing interval and its difference from the end behavior. We went through graphing by hand and how to do it using a calculator as well. It was a very busy day and we will continue with it more tomorrow. Here are the notes from period 1, period 3, period 4.

Today in Academic we began with a movie trivia Monday to keep the spirit light. We then moved on to a normal warmup and discussing the homework problems. Afterwards we then began discussing systems of lines and circles. We went through some basic examples and them moved on to some word problems. We discussed why we solve the word problems the way we do and made sure that we wrote our answers in complete sentences and with correct units. We also signed up for the retest (Thursday 09/28) and they committed to a time for that as well as corrections. Here are the notes.
Today in Honors we did also began with a movie trivia Monday. After that we went through a basic warmup and discussed the methods for solving and why we approach each problem the way we do. Our lesson was on systems of lines and circles. We discusses the similarities and differences between Friday's lesson. We went through basic problems and they practiced them. We then went to word problems and they completed them making sure to write in full sentences and in correct units. We also signed up for the retest (Thursday 09/28) and they committed to a time for that as well as corrections. Here are the notes. Today we began a new unit in all three classes. I handed out the homework and we reviewed systems of equations. We went through the methods they had learned and discussed elimination in detail. Here are the notes for day 1.
Today in academic we went through a whiteboard game where we practiced and then went over problems. I kept track of how many answers they got correct and it will be taken for a grade. They then received the review and will be reviewing for the test tomorrow.
In honors we did a talking day where the students lead the class. I keep track of participation and other factors. They then received the review and had time to work on it. All review materials can now be found in the honors math II section. Today in all classes we practiced completing the square some more. We went through a bunch of problems and they completed them. In academic this was an in class activity where we used the white boards. The work can be found here.
In Honors Math III we did an activity in the hallway where they completed a problem and then worked their way around the locker bay to finish all the problems. The problems and answers can be found here. The answer to each problem can be found at the bottom of the NEXT PAGE. I went over some problems in the classroom after and that can be found here. Today in academic math II we began with a kahoot on the quadratic formula as well as discriminant. We talked about it and then moved on to our new process of completing the square. We slowly built into why it works and how to do it and then dove into some problems. After a few examples I gave them one to do and then we went over it. Their homework will be 2-4 and the notes can be found here.
Today in Honors Math III we began with a kahoot reviewing the quadratic formula. We practiced it and talked about what the discriminant meant. We then moved on to the process of completing the square. We began with a visual depiction of an actual square and how to make one when it isn't full. We moved on to an example by reversing the box method of multiplication and then I showed them the repeated algorithm. We practiced it many times and then I told them we would continue on Monday. The notes can be found here. Today was a quiz day for both classes so we do not have any notes to post. We spent the first half of class going over the homework and reviewing the types of problems that would be on the quiz. There is no homework, but we will continue notes and homework tomorrow.
I apologize for not getting this started sooner, but from now on I will attempt to write a blog post about each day of the week and update with documents from that day's lesson.
Today in academic math II we finished talking about complex numbers and began our discussion and practice with the quadratic formula. The notes can be found here. We did some practice with them and talked about the discriminant and what that means. Tomorrow we will have a quiz on complex numbers, simplifying radicals, and the quadratic formula. The test is coming up next Wednesday 09/20. In honors we talked about the same basic material but at a more advanced level. I discussed where the quadratic formula came from as well as the origin of the +/- in the problem. We practiced some examples and then talked about the discriminant and why it has the power to tell us the number and types of solutions. They will have a quiz tomorrow on complex numbers, simplifying radicals, and the quadratic formula. The test is coming up next Wednesday 09/20. The notes can be found here. Honors Math II 04/24 - Today we took a vocabulary quiz at first. Afterwards we talked about the triangle sum theorem and the remote exterior angle theorem. We went through examples of each and then finished up with a kahoot. We will be quizzing on Wednesday. Their homework was 7-3 04/24 - Today we began with a warmup finding all angles in a parallel line diagram. They had to give reasons and measures. Afterwards we began talking about the triangle sum theorem and the remote exterior angle theorem. We went through many examples and then I gave them time to work on test corrections. We will have a vocab quiz tomorrow and a normal quiz on Wednesday.
Honors Math II 04/17 - Today was our introduction back to math after a long break. We began with a review of the material from before break and then immediately took a quiz. This was to get them back in the zone and ready to work again. Afterwards they were allowed to work on their projects due tomorrow. 04/18 - Today was review day. They began by turning in their projects and then we completed a talking day review. They received a couple review sheets at the end of class. 04/19 - Today was test day. We began by answering a couple questions about the test and then they took it. Tomorrow we will start our new unit. Academic Math II
04/17 - Today was our introduction back to math after a long break. We began by reviewing a bit before talking about composition of transformations. We talked about translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations as well as how to combine them. 04/18 - Today was review day and quiz. They began with the quiz and then immediately moved to the review. They worked out in the hall on a scavenger hunt solving problems and finding answers. At the end they grabbed their reviews and worked on them or their projects that are due Thursday. 04/19 - Today was test day. We began by answering a couple questions about the test and then they took it. Tomorrow we will start our new unit. |
